I.M.A.M. Participates in Interfaith Prayer Gathering for Justice, Peace, and Human Dignity
Churches United to Save and Heal (C.U.S.H.), under the leadership of Rev. Patricia Malcolm, Board President of C.U.S.H. and Senior Pastor of Pathway to Life Ministries, convened an Emergency Virtual Prayer Call following a recent immigration-enforcement incident in New York City. The gathering brought together clergy, community leaders, advocates, and concerned citizens in prayer and reflection on justice, accountability, peace, healing, and the protection of vulnerable families.
A representative of I.M.A.M. participated in the gathering, joining other faith and community voices in reflecting on the moral responsibilities that arise when public policies and their implementation directly affect individuals, families, and communities. Participants emphasized that respect for human dignity should remain at the heart of policymaking, public administration, and the implementation of public policy, with particular attention to marginalized communities and vulnerable individuals and families. They stressed that safeguarding the dignity of every human being is a shared responsibility—before God, before history and future generations, and before the moral conscience of each of us.
Religious leaders and participants expressed support for forms of governance and public policy that place the dignity, safety, and well-being of all people, particularly those in vulnerable circumstances, at the center of decision-making. The gathering also underscored the role that faith communities can play in encouraging peaceful civic engagement, moral responsibility, and care for those affected by social and political tensions.
The prayer gathering was organized in response to an October 8 incident in Marble Hill, a predominantly Latino community in northern Manhattan bordering the Bronx. According to a Reuters report, an ICE officer shot and wounded a man during an immigration-enforcement operation while a five-year-old child was present in the vehicle. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, with differing accounts from authorities.
